About Me

I am a recent graduate from Dominican University where I became a Registered Dietitian!!  I also got a BA in Exercise Sport Science from Carthage College!  I am currently working at a few different jobs as a dietitian, and am in the process of starting my own business (TheYogiRD) with this blog (any my new website)!

A goal of mine as a dietitian is to help people overcome their fears of food and become the healthy and energetic people they want to be.  I believe that everyone has the capacity to be healthy, it's just a matter of finding what works for each individual; because let's face it not one of us is exactly like another.  I'm not talking about moving a mountain in one shove, but sliding the rocks so that the movement is small and gradual; one day the mountain will have moved and you may not even realize it!  By helping people to feel comfortable in their beautiful bodies through nutrition coaching and yoga, I hope to one day bring a sense of peace of mind when it comes to living a healthy lifestyle.

I have read tons of nutrition blogs and all of the writers seem to have their life all mapped out and together.  They love to exercise and only eat the best organic food money can buy!  Well, I am here to tell you, that this is just not me.  In all honesty, I really don't like to pump out tons of energy at the gym and be completely exhausted after a workout.  As a matter of fact, I don't even really enjoy "working out".  To me, this puts a negative view on getting the body moving.  Don't get me wrong; there is nothing I love more than a good run, a long walk, a bike ride, soothing yoga, hiking/backpacking, kayaking, and just being active!!!  But it is all about the way you look at it. My point here is that I like being on the move, not stuck behind a desk all day and then going to the gym after work; this just does not work for me.  With this routine, I get bored very quickly and ultimately end up not "working out".  I have learned that for my body, I have to find ways throughout my day to exercise and de-stress.  I do this by taking a walk with my husband after dinner, taking the stairs, parking farther away, practicing yoga, and riding my bike on errands instead of driving the car.

In referring to the nutrition aspect, being mindful of what I am eating has helped me choose the most nutritious foods to nourish my cells! I have found a way of eating that works for me.  It is a whole foods, vegan diet in which the majority of my energy comes from fruits and vegetables.  I have noticed such an increase in energy and vitality when I eat this way!  I feel satisfied after every meal and my meals are quite large due to the high water content of the food I eat.
Hiking with my hubby!

As mentioned before, I absolutely LOVE to be active and eat healthy.  Yoga and bike riding are two of my favorite things to do, but I also adore hiking and gardening (although I have no yard, so windowsill gardening is what I do at the moment).  Practically any activity that I am doing in the outdoors is a blessing.  Being out in nature is what makes each day great.  When asked what my favorite foods are, they are usually fruits or vegetables (and they change daily because there are so many good ones out there!).  As for right now, Watermelons are hitting the top of the list!

I live every day in the most positive way possible and learning to lean on my husband and family for support in my efforts to start my own business as an RD.  I created this blog as a way to share my knowledge of nutrition and yoga.  This blog is research-based and I share some of my own thoughts and progressions on living a healthy life.
